Relationship Trends Give Rise To Increased Storage Demand

Tuesday, 24th November 2009
Statistics show we are marrying or settling down with partners later in life. Usually by this time we have led independent lives in our own homes and have accumulated large amounts of possessions. As a nation of hoarders many people are reluctant to throw anything away, “that will come in handy one day” is a phrase any self storage company loves to hear. Once we do decide to settle down get married or move in with a partner two homes quickly become one, however the mountain of junk we just can’t bear to part with has to be kept somewhere. The trend for interior design is minimalism and clutter in the home just won’t do, again music to your local self storage company’s ears. We live much more active lives and hobbies and sports all require the necessary must have equipment. Mountain biking makes way for golf, horse riding for tennis and so on, it is hard to sell the regalia and finally face up to the fact that we are fickle. Divorce rates are unfortunately also higher than they have ever been. Usually during a divorce one party moves out and usually to a smaller property. Once again possessions have to be divided between couples and stored in the interim.
