Container Depots Near Tilbury

Wednesday, 29th August 2012

At present Tilbury is the nearest container port to London. Our depot is close by and for over 37 years has provided storage, handling and repairs for containers coming to and from the port. The Port Of Tilbury also handles a large amount of bulk products which are non-containerised such as forest products and recycling materials. A large proportion of imports and exports going via the port are however in containers.

Once emptied these containers need to be stored, repaired and made ready for their next booking. Reefers will need a PTI and cleaning may also be required, space within the port is often restricted and geared more towards loaded storage.

Empty containers are often returned to depots near Tilbury where they will be inspected according to the individual clients or industry specifications such as IICL or CIC. If no damages are noted the boxes are then placed in an AV (available) stack ready for collection. Damaged equipment is estimated for repair, the costs submitted to the relevant parties, and the containers placed in a damaged stack. Once authorised the repairs are carried out in accordance with the clients or industry criteria and transferred to an AV stack ready for release.
