Fast Food From Mobile Canteens

Monday, 15th March 2010
Walking around town centres, open air markets or festivals, exhibitions and meetings there are huge choices these days of cuisine being offered to take away. Mobile or temporary stalls can be seen selling everything from traditional foods such as burgers and fish and chips to more exotic and healthier options like falafel, wraps and salads. For those looking to set this kind of enterprise up it can often be a daunting task finding a suitable canteen. You need something functional as well as secure, weatherproof and clean. There are second hand options for sale but these are usually very old and out dated. Shipping containers provide the ideal base for conversion into mobile canteens, cafe’s and catering units. A freight container can have a serving hatch cut into the side with a hinged folding canopy to keep the rain off your customers. Inside insulation, wipe clean hygienic lining and non-slip flooring can be fitted. Lighting, heating and water connections are also easily included as part of the conversion. Worktops, grills ovens and extraction units can all be fitted along with refrigeration, WC facilities and separate wash areas. The benefit of using an ISO shipping container is that they are available for sale in most locations. For their size and the materials used to construct them they are relatively cheap. A modified unit is easily transported from site to site by crane mounted vehicle. Storage whilst on-site is secure due to the steel exterior and logos and hoardings are easily fitted to the sides. The modular design means that additional units can be added alongside or even on top.
