Lockboxes
Lockboxes, cowls or locking shrouds as they are also known are steel boxes welded to the right hand door of the container which closes over a lug welded to the left hand door of the container. Once welded in place this then allows the customer to fit a padlock to the unit which is protected from anyone trying to tamper with it. These lockboxes can be seen up and down the country in the many container self storage facilities.
Lockboxes are fitted as an optional extra and come in 2 sizes – standard and shipping cowls. As the name suggests the smaller shipping cowls remain within the containers external ISO dimensions meaning it can still be shipped as conventional cargo in the ships cell guides without incurring any additional special stowage charges.
There are a number of high security heavy duty padlocks which are sold to accompany the lockbox although any reasonable sized padlock should fit a standard lockbox. We can sell padlocks and lockboxes as separate items should any client wish to fit them on-site.
